Holiday (in his two books, "The Great Orm of Loch Ness" and "The Dragon and the Disc"), the loch monsters of the British Isles are giant mollusks--basically giant Tully monsters. This, Holiday believed, accounted for such things as knights fighting snails (or dragons). They are garbled accounts/illustrations of olden men having violent encounters with giant Tully monsters. The whole idea is so cool that I stole it and put it in Carcosa (under "Lake Monsters").Geoffrey McKinneyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00042661843714609025noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5377543525075660166.post-69328220498475810452013-09-28T10:50:34.118-04:002013-09-28T10:50:34.118-04:00I love those snail vs knight illustrations!
On the...I love those snail vs knight illustrations!<br />On the snail as monster issue, I have a dungeon under continual design that is partially inhabited by 2 types of snail --- the first is a 'really big' snail that will just cruise right over the top of you, crushing the life out of you if you are not careful (http://aldeboran.blogspot.com/2012/10/schroedingers-room-and-fuck-diddles.html) and the second is a 'burning snail' that exudes an acidic slime when touched --- but I hadn't considered the slime trails! Thanks for the inspiration.Stefan Poaghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08192911890556534923noreply@blogger.com
