I have been taking notes ...I really like this idea. I have been taking notes on procedural generation tricks for my Earthdawn/Greyhawk mashup, and this seem very useful. My players don't know either setting very well, and I'm mixing various large & small scale World of Greyhawk items into Barsaive, so now it's just coming up with the right tables.

I think the place to start would be to mindmap out the factions, cultures & political conflicts in the settings, and then use that as a reference to generate any table you need. Great post, I had read your OD&D pdf, but just found your blog.Joshua Fontanyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05477303051873546850noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5377543525075660166.post-62702999489850643112013-10-16T08:56:55.856-04:002013-10-16T08:56:55.856-04:00I wholeheartedly agree. There are already a couple of great examples for this kind of approach:
- Towers of Krshal
- Planet Motherfucker
- PsychonYnas Midgardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14972628887096890642noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5377543525075660166.post-82985545634702657032013-10-05T00:36:39.115-04:002013-10-05T00:36:39.115-04:00I've been having similar thoughts lately, thou...I've been having similar thoughts lately, though I've never looked into Wilderlands. I'd love to see some tables for Kalamar

With all the extra detail I've seen in settings, I'm surprised I've never seen one list various monster lairs. Now THAT would be some useful information! You'd need something much smaller than a world or even a continent, of course, but how cool would that be? It's better left to a table, of course, but maybe an example of how a 30-mile hex might be fleshed out would be niceHolly Oatshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01703437987958922954noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5377543525075660166.post-65470372047498210502013-10-04T12:54:32.488-04:002013-10-04T12:54:32.488-04:00Whereas the "you are a barbarian" approa...Whereas the "you are a barbarian" approach in Tekumel is great for the players, it really does nothing to help the DM. Probably the main reason Tekumel is talked about but rarely played. I've always felt that the usefulness of a setting is inversely proportional to the amount of text written about it. Back in the day, I ran Runequest in Glorantha for years. Now that setting has a 400 page setting book that, when I looked through it, was completely foreign to me. There's no way I'd try to run Glorantha today. Hedgehobbithttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17606283586332210195noreply@blogger.com
